Oshino Hakkai 忍野八海
Visiting Oshino Hakkai today
- What it is: Eight clear spring-fed ponds in a village below Mount Fuji, fed by snowmelt filtered through lava, with thatched houses and food stalls around them.
- Getting there: From Fujisan Station, Fujikyu bus (including the Fujikko-go loop) to Oshino Hakkai, about 20 minutes.
- Hours: The ponds can be viewed at any time. Sokonuke Pond, inside a museum, is 9:00–17:00.
- Admission: Free. Sokonuke Pond is inside the Hannoki-bayashi museum (¥300 adults).
- Tip: Mid-morning tour groups crowd the main pond; early morning is calm and Fuji is more often clear.
