Visiting Miyashita Park today

  • What it is: A Shibuya City park on the roof of a long, low building between Shibuya and Harajuku. It first opened in 1953 and became Tokyo's first rooftop park in 1966. It was rebuilt in 2020 and now has a lawn, a skate park, a bouldering wall and a sand court on top.
  • Below the park: RAYARD MIYASHITA PARK runs about 330 m underneath, with around 90 shops ranging from luxury and street brands to record shops, plus the sequence MIYASHITA PARK hotel. On the South block's 1st floor, Shibuya Yokocho is a 100 m food alley of 19 shops serving dishes from all over Japan.
  • Getting there: About 3 minutes on foot from Shibuya Station, or 8 minutes from exit 7 of Meiji-jingumae (Harajuku) Station.
  • Hours: Park 8:00–23:00. Sports facilities 9:00–22:00 (last entry 21:30). Closed 29 December to 3 January, and facilities close in rain or lightning. Shops 11:00–21:00 and restaurants 11:00–23:00, with some exceptions. Shibuya Yokocho is listed as 11:00–5:00, depending on the shop.
  • Tip: Nonbei Yokocho's tiny postwar bars are close by, beside the JR tracks, for a contrast with the new Shibuya Yokocho.
