Visiting Shibuya Scramble Crossing today

  • What it is: The famous scramble outside Shibuya Station: five crossings over one big intersection, where every pedestrian light turns green at once. GO TOKYO puts it at upwards of 1,000 people crossing at a time, and JNTO estimates 1,000 to 2,500 every two minutes at the busiest times.
  • Getting there: Directly outside the Hachiko Exit of Shibuya Station. Inside the station, follow the signs marked "Hachiko".
  • Hours: A public road crossing, so it is free and there are no opening hours.
  • Best view: For the view from above, try the windows of the QFRONT building, or the quieter station walkway between the JR lines and the Keio Inokashira Line toward Shibuya Mark City. Shibuya Sky looks straight down on it from the top of Shibuya Scramble Square.
  • Tip: Start from the station side and cross toward Center Gai. Keep moving and watch where you walk if you stop for photos.
Best timeGood any time of yearAny season; the neon signs are brightest after dark
