Tokyo Metro Ginza Line platform 銀座線渋谷駅
Visiting Tokyo Metro Ginza Line platform today
- What it is: The Ginza Line terminus at Shibuya, an elevated station on the third floor of the station building. It is topped by an M-shaped roof designed by architect Hiroshi Naito, which needs no internal pillars.
- Then and now: The old terminus, opened in December 1938 inside the Tokyu Toyoko department store, had narrow 6 m side platforms. Trains moved to the new station east of it on 3 January 2020, with a single 12 m wide island platform.
- Getting there: The entrance is next to Shibuya Hikarie.
- Tip: The Hanzomon Line platforms at Shibuya are far away, so to change to that line it is easier to transfer at Omotesando.
- Then and now: The wider Shibuya Station redevelopment is expected to be largely complete around 2030.
