Shibuya Stream 渋谷ストリーム
Visiting Shibuya Stream today
- What it is: A 35-storey tower of about 180 m that opened on 13 September 2018. It stands on the old above-ground Tokyu Toyoko Line platforms and tracks, which were freed up when the line moved underground in March 2013. Inside are about 30 shops and restaurants, offices, an Excel Hotel Tokyu and an event hall.
- Riverside walk: Beside the tower, the restored Shibuya River has two plazas and a promenade of about 600 m along the old track bed. It runs from Inari Bridge near the station to Namiki Bridge and the Shibuya Bridge complex, toward Daikanyama and Ebisu. Railway remains and memorials line the path, and old Toyoko Line rails are set into the floor of the 2nd-floor walkway.
- Getting there: Directly connected to Shibuya Station's JR New South Exit and to subway Exit C2 (Tokyu Toyoko and Den-en-toshi lines, Tokyo Metro Hanzomon and Fukutoshin lines).
- Hours: These vary by floor and shop, and the building closes on irregular days. The riverside walk is outdoors.
- Then and now: This 2009 post was about the Shibuya River, hidden under the roads and buildings around the station. The stretch south of the station is now out in the open again beside Shibuya Stream.
