Visiting Yufuin today

  • What it is: A hot spring town beneath twin-peaked Mount Yufu. Galleries and cafes line Yunotsubo Kaido on the way to small, spring-fed Lake Kinrin.
  • Getting there: From JR Beppu, the Yufu or Yufuin no Mori express takes about 1 hour 5 minutes. The Yufurin bus from Beppu Kitahama takes about 1 hour 13 minutes.
  • Hours: Streets open at all times; most shops open from morning until early evening.
  • Admission: Free to stroll. Baths and museums charge separately.
  • Tip: Reach Lake Kinrin early on a cold autumn or winter morning to see mist rising off the water before the day-trip crowds arrive.
