Kurokawa Onsen 黒川温泉
Visiting Kurokawa Onsen today
- What it is: A small riverside hot spring village of wooden inns in the mountains north of Aso. It is known for its outdoor baths.
- Getting there: No train serves it. Direct highway buses run from Fukuoka Airport (about 2 hours 15 minutes) and Hakata, and four buses a day run from Kumamoto.
- Hours: Baths are usually open to day visitors about 8:30–21:00, but each inn sets its own hours.
- Admission: A Nyuto Tegata wooden pass gives entry to three baths at participating inns and is valid for six months.
- Tip: Buy the Tegata at the Kaze no Sha information center or any participating inn, and pick up its English map. Day-visitor parking is limited.
