Visiting Nagoya Station today

  • What it is: The main transport hub of the Chubu region. Every Tokaido Shinkansen train stops here, and the station also serves JR conventional lines, Meitetsu, Kintetsu, the Nagoya subway (Higashiyama and Sakura-dori lines) and the Aonami Line. An underground concourse links the JR station to Meitetsu, Kintetsu, the subway and buses.
  • Shinkansen times: About 1 hour 40 minutes from Tokyo, 35 minutes to Kyoto and 50 minutes to Osaka.
  • In the station: The JR Central Towers above the station hold the JR Nagoya Takashimaya department store, restaurant floors and the Nagoya Marriott Associa Hotel, and the JR Gate Tower is next door.
  • Sky Promenade (Midland Square): The observation deck on floors 44-46 of the neighbouring Midland Square opens 11:00-22:00 (last admission 21:30), or until 22:30 in August. Adults pay ¥1,000 on weekdays and ¥1,200 on weekends and holidays. The entrance is on the 42nd floor, reached by shuttle elevator from the ground floor, and admission may be restricted in bad weather.
  • Onward: Nagoya Castle is a 5-minute walk from Exit 7 of Nagoyajo Station on the Meijo subway line, though the main keep cannot currently be entered. Atsuta Jingu is served by Atsuta Jingu Nishi Station on the Meijo line and Jingu-mae Station on Meitetsu, and its grounds are open 24 hours.

Nagoya Station

I visited Nagoya a while ago and traveled to Ise Jingu on the train. My stay in Nagoya was short so I only managed to take a few photos around the Station…
