Visiting Inuyama Castle today

  • What it is: A National Treasure castle on a bluff above the Kiso River, built around 1537. Its small keep is said to be the oldest surviving in Japan.
  • Getting there: About 15 minutes on foot from Meitetsu Inuyama-yuen Station, or about 20 minutes from Inuyama Station West Exit.
  • Hours: 9:00–17:00 (last entry 16:30). Closed 29–31 December.
  • Admission: ¥1,000 adults, ¥200 elementary and junior high students.
  • Tip: Walk through the old castle town below on the way; the top balcony of the keep has views over the river.
