Kabukiza Theatre 歌舞伎座
Visiting Kabukiza Theatre today
- Then and now: The theatre in these photos was rebuilt. The fifth Kabukiza, designed by Kengo Kuma with Mitsubishi Jisho Sekkei, reopened on 2 April 2013. It keeps the Momoyama-style gabled front and stands in front of the 29-storey Kabukiza Tower.
- Getting there: Exit 3 of Higashi-ginza Station (Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line and Toei Asakusa Line) leads straight into the theatre's B2 level, where Kobiki-cho Plaza sells kabuki souvenirs and food.
- Admission: Prices vary by programme. Single-act tickets cost ¥800-2,000 and are sold only at the Single Act Box Office, in cash.
- Tip: The single-act queue can take 30-120 minutes. English-subtitle tablets can be rented at the entrance for ¥1,000.
