Kyoto Station Building 京都駅
Visiting Kyoto Station Building today
- What it is: The station building opened in 1997 for Kyoto's 1,200th anniversary. It was designed by Hiroshi Hara, is 70 m high and 470 m long.
- Getting there: It is part of Kyoto Station itself. The Karasuma (north) side faces downtown and Kyoto Tower; the quieter Hachijo side is near Toji Temple.
- Admission: Free. The Skyway, a glass corridor about 45 m above the central hall, is open 10:00-22:00 from the 11th-floor restaurant level.
- Tip: Climb the 171-step Grand Stairway from the 4th floor to the rooftop Sky Garden, open 6:00-23:00, for views over the city.
- Tip: Coin lockers fill up on busy days; luggage storage and delivery services are in the basement.
