The sky suddenly lit up.

At the end of a long day around Fukui on my Hokuriku trip, after the Tojinbo cliffs, the sky lit up just as the sun went down.

These were all taken in about five minutes, from the first burst of colour to the last of the light.

The last of the light behind the pylons.

It was over almost as quickly as it started, but it was a good way to finish the trip.

I took these photos in October 2010 and only got round to posting them in 2026.
