The Nishitetsu train at Dazaifu Station.

In August 2010 I took the Nishitetsu train out from Fukuoka to Dazaifu. I already posted the photos of Dazaifu Tenmangu itself; these are from the walk up the omotesando, the street of shops between the station and the shrine.

It is only a few minutes' walk, but with all the shops and snacks on the way it took me a lot longer than that.

And an umegae mochi to finish, a grilled rice cake with sweet red bean inside.

If you go, try an umegae mochi on the way. You will see them being made in the shop windows all along the street.

I took these photos in August 2010 and only got round to posting them in 2026.
