Visiting Ueno Park today

  • Getting there: About 2 minutes' walk from JR Ueno Station, or 1 minute from Keisei Ueno Station.
  • Admission and hours: Free, open daily 5:00-23:00.
  • Best time: Mid-March to early April, when about 800 Somei Yoshino trees along the main path flower. Lanterns light the path during the festival.
  • Tip: Hundreds of thousands of people visit each day during the blossom season, and weekdays are quieter. Shinobazu Pond has rowing, swan and pedal boats.

Ueno Park, Sakura

Ueno Park was Japan's first public park, opened in 1873. It has many attractions including a zoo, museums, a lake, temples and every year in April it is the destination for many to view the Sakura trees in full bloom.
