Visiting Atami today

  • What it is: A seaside hot-spring town on Sagami Bay with a sandy beach, a hilltop castle viewpoint and fresh seafood. Fireworks are held over the bay in every season.
  • Getting there: Under an hour from Tokyo on the Tokaido Shinkansen. Slower, cheaper JR Tokaido Line trains also run there.
  • Hours: The town is open at all times. Sun Beach is lit up from sunset until 22:00.
  • Admission: Free to walk around. Baths and attractions charge separately.
  • Tip: Check the fireworks schedule before you go. They are held more than ten times a year, and hotels fill up on those nights.
