Visiting Osaka Castle today

  • What it is: Hideyoshi's castle site, with a 1931 concrete main tower (now a museum and lookout) inside the moats and stone walls of Osaka Castle Park.
  • Getting there: About 15 minutes' walk from JR Osakajokoen Station on the Osaka Loop Line. Tanimachi 4-chome Station (Tanimachi and Chuo subway lines) is a similar walk from the south-west.
  • Hours: Main tower 9:00-18:00, last entry 17:30. The park itself is open at all hours.
  • Admission: Main tower ¥1,200 adults; ¥600 high school and university students; free for junior high age and under. The park is free.
  • Tip: Walk up through the exhibition floors, then take the lift down. Arrive at opening to avoid the queue for the tower lift.

I visited Osaka Castle a while back and enjoyed the nice walk around its gardens. The Castle has been rebuilt a number of times over many years.
