Visiting Kiyotsu Gorge today

  • What it is: A deep gorge of columnar basalt cliffs, viewed through a 750 m tunnel with art viewpoints. The last chamber, Tunnel of Light, reflects the gorge in a shallow pool.
  • Getting there: From JR Echigo-Yuzawa Station, bus toward Mori-Miyanohara to Kiyotsukyo Iriguchi, then about 30 minutes on foot.
  • Hours: March–November 8:30–17:00 (last entry 16:30); December–February 9:00–16:00 (last entry 15:30). May close in heavy snow.
  • Admission: ¥1,200 adults, ¥500 children (21 April–20 November); ¥1,000 / ¥400 in the off season.
  • Tip: On busy days, including 24 October–3 November 2026, entry is by advance online ticket only.
