Visiting Sengan-en today

  • What it is: The Shimazu lords' 1658 seaside villa and garden, framed by Sakurajima and the bay. It is part of the Meiji Industrial Revolution World Heritage site.
  • Getting there: From Kagoshima-Chuo Station, the Kagoshima City View bus to Sengan-en-mae, about 50 minutes.
  • Hours: 9:00–17:00. Closed the first Sunday of March for the Kagoshima Marathon.
  • Admission: Charged; we could not confirm current rates on an official page. A 30-minute guided tour is ¥500 extra.
  • Tip: English guided tours run at 12:00 on Wednesdays and Sundays (¥800 adults).
