Visiting Kenroku-en today

  • What it is: One of Japan's three great gardens, a 17th–19th-century lord's garden of ponds, stone lanterns and pines beside Kanazawa Castle.
  • Getting there: From Kanazawa Station East Exit, bus stop 7: the Kenrokuen shuttle or loop bus takes about 15 minutes.
  • Hours: 7:00–18:00 (1 Mar–15 Oct); 8:00–17:00 (16 Oct–end Feb). Last entry 30 minutes before closing.
  • Admission: ¥320 adults (18+), ¥100 ages 6–17. Free early-morning entry before opening via Renchimon and Zuishinzaka gates.
  • Tip: The free early opening (from 6:00 in winter) is the quietest time. Two stone walls on Sazaeyama fell in the 2024 earthquake.
