Arima Onsen 有馬温泉
Visiting Arima Onsen today
- What it is: One of Japan's oldest hot spring towns, in the hills behind Kobe. It has rust-brown iron-rich 'kinsen' water and clear 'ginsen' water.
- Getting there: Kobe Electric Railway to Arima Onsen Station. Kin no Yu is a short walk uphill in the old town; Gin no Yu is about 5 minutes further on.
- Hours: Kin no Yu 8:00–22:00 (last entry 21:30), closed 2nd and 4th Tuesdays. Gin no Yu 9:00–21:00 (last entry 20:30), closed 1st and 3rd Tuesdays.
- Admission: Gin no Yu ¥700 (¥550 weekdays). Two-bath ticket for Kin no Yu and Gin no Yu ¥1,200.
- Tip: Kin no Yu and Gin no Yu close on different Tuesdays, so one is usually open. The lanes are steep, so wear comfortable shoes.
