Visiting Hiroshima Castle today

  • What it is: The "Carp Castle" grounds, with moats and a 1958 concrete keep. The keep's interior closed for good on 22 March 2026 over aging and safety concerns; a wooden rebuild is being studied.
  • Getting there: From JR Hiroshima Station, take a tram to Kamiyacho-Higashi, then walk about 15 minutes.
  • Hours: Grounds open. Ninomaru gate buildings 9:00–17:30 Apr–Sep, 9:00–16:30 Oct–Mar (last entry 30 minutes before); closed 8 Dec and 29–31 Dec.
  • Admission: Ninomaru free. The keep is no longer open inside.
  • Tip: You can still view and photograph the keep from outside; detailed reconstruction studies are expected to run until around FY2030.
