Visiting Udatsu Old Town today

  • What it is: Mino's old merchant district, known as Udatsu no Agaru Machinami, with Edo- and Meiji-period houses topped by udatsu firewalls. The Kyu Imai house, a former village head and washi merchant's home, has the oldest udatsu in town, a suikinkutsu in the garden, and the Mino History Museum at the back.
  • Kyu Imai house: Open 9:00–16:30 April–September (last entry 16:15), 9:00–16:00 October–March (last entry 15:45). Closed Tuesdays December–February, the day after national holidays, and New Year. ¥300; a ¥400 ticket adds the Akari Art Gallery, and ¥800 also covers the Mino Washi Museum.
  • Getting there: About 15 minutes' walk from Mino-shi Station on the Nagaragawa Railway, or Gifu Bus to Udatsu no Machinami-dori. About 5 minutes by car from Mino IC.
  • Best time: The Mino Washi Akari Art Exhibition lights the streets with washi lamps in autumn; in 2026 it runs 10 October to 30 November, 17:00–21:00, free.
