Visiting Matsuyama Castle today

  • What it is: A hilltop castle in central Matsuyama with one of Japan's twelve original keeps (rebuilt in 1854), towers and gates.
  • Getting there: The ropeway and chairlift station is on Okaido shopping street, near the Okaido tram stop.
  • Hours: Ropeway 8:30–17:30 (18:00 in August, 17:00 Dec–Jan); chairlift 8:30–17:00. Open daily.
  • Admission: Ropeway or lift adults ¥270 one way, ¥520 return; elementary ¥140/¥260. Keep admission is charged separately.
  • Tip: Take the open chairlift up on a fine day; preschool children must use the ropeway.
