Conbini Monday Wk11

I went down to the Disney convenience store to check out their supplies for this weeks Conbini Monday. They had a few special Disney goodies as well as the usual great conbini supplies.

First up are some Disney specials produced by Yamazaki:

Anyone for some plain Mickey donuts?

Pocky is a big favorite for many in Japan, with chocolate and strawberry flavors the basic staple. You can always find a lot of other special flavors depending on the location and season. I hadn’t seen this pack of apple yogurt pocky before, and they tasted good.

To wash down those great snacks here are 2 drinks:

Mango Purin and Orange drink

The find of the day goes to these ramune flavored kit kats. Ramune is a traditional Japanese soda often found at carnivals and matsuris. It has a sweet taste and is often best served cold.

Despite the strange almost soap looking color, these ramune flavored kit kats tasted pretty good. I still prefer the original, though.

What strange flavored kit kats have you seen or tasted in Japan? I would love to hear from you in the comments as to what you have experienced. Please leave a note to share. Thanks.

WHAAA~!? Ramune Kit Kats?? That's something I gotta look for to try, lol. I kinda hate Kit Kats here cuz it's so boring, but Japan really makes it more fun to eat them XD

the more flavors the more repeat customers i suppose. the plain chocolate ones do seem a bit boring compared to all the great flavors available in Japan

Both of these were good, but I am probably not going to rush back to get more. 🙂

I’m a total whore for J-packaging, especially food packaging (it always seems to be the most interesting) and I normally keep it unless it’s really boring. I find the Kit Kat packages to be amongst the most well-designed, and on that note I have a bulletin board full of them: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3613/3693025975_5df6f2bf73_b.jpg Truth be known, they’re all pretty good, though the quintessentially Japanese azuki and mochi flavors ironically tasted like regular chocolate Kit Kats (though the azuki ones’ texture was awesome). I have a serious weakness for vanilla, so I love the vanilla beans ones. The Macchiato McFlurry ones that used “1.0% real coffee” and the Yukimi Sakura ones that use “1.5% real sakura leaf (sakuranbo)” are excellent, too. I just read the sakura flavor’s package again the other day and discovered the 1.5% sakura thing, when I ate them they kinda tasted like banana blended with coconut flavoring or something. But hands down, I’d have to say that the Daigaku Imo ones were my favorite. I adore sweet potatoes in their vegetable form, so naturally these were like chocolate kryptonite to me when I got them. I usually share when I get something that I’m unlikely to run across again after their initial run (which seems to be just about every snack in Japan), but these were all mine. =)

Incidentally, does anyone know an online place to get J-Kit Kat flavors other than J-List, as they stop stocking chocolate stuff during the summer, and I REALLY want to try the apple cider vinegar KK and the Ramune ones too!

We only get the regular chocolate flavor Kit Kats over here. I think one time they offered a strawberry flavored and white chocolate flavored one on a short time basis. Would really like to try all the unique flavors you have in Japan so jealous:S
Also the only pocky flavors they have around here is chocolate or strawberry. $1.99 a box USD. Never see those style of drink containers here either. Looks interesting. Looking at the Disney packages are things you would only find there.
Speaking of Disney they had a monorail crash Sunday morning. The opperator of one of the tains were killed. He slammed into the back of another one at the loading dock at Magic Kingdom. The anti crash system was turned off.
It was the first time anything like this ever happened.Wish I could be in Japan right now, maybe in the future.
Well off to cut the grass and do the weed eater things, before it gets to hot .
Have agreat day, wnat to see all the photos you took while in Kyoto.
Ja mata ne:D

I've tried pudding, oshiruko, daigakuimo/sweet potato, white and yellow peach kit kats.
The pudding ones are by far the best. 🙂

Yeah, the vanilla beans *sic* ones were excellent, and I assume that they and the pudding ones probably share more than a few ingredients.
