Motonosumi Shrine 元乃隅神社
Visiting Motonosumi Shrine today
- What it is: A small Inari shrine on a cliff above the Sea of Japan, famous for its line of 123 red torii gates running down to the rocks.
- Getting there: No bus serves it. Take a taxi of about 20 minutes from JR Nagato-Furuichi or Hitomaru station, or drive about 60 minutes from Mine IC.
- Hours: 9:30–16:30. Visits are suspended on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from March to November 2026. The torii are under repair, so you cannot walk through them until at least spring 2027.
- Admission: Free. Car parking is ¥300 for the first hour, with a ¥500 maximum.
- Tip: Check the Nagato tourism notice before going. The weekend closures have exceptions such as Golden Week and Obon, and the repairs affect what you can see.
