Ginzan Onsen 銀山温泉
Visiting Ginzan Onsen today
- What it is: A small hot spring town of wooden multi-storey inns facing each other across a narrow river, lit by gas lamps at night. It is especially popular in snow.
- Getting there: Bus from JR Oishida Station (Yamagata Shinkansen) to the Ginzan Onsen terminus, about 40 minutes.
- Hours: The streets are open at all times; shops and cafes keep their own hours.
- Admission: Free to walk. In winter 2025–26 (20 December to 1 March) day visitors by car had to park at Taisho Romankan and take a shuttle (¥500–1,000 return).
- Tip: Snowy evenings are very crowded with day-trippers. Staying overnight at an inn gives the quietest night views.
