Visiting Mt Bizan and Bizan Ropeway today

  • What it is: A 290-metre hill beside central Tokushima, with views over the city from the summit by day or night. The summit also has the Mayuge-kyo LED display.
  • Getting there: Walk about 10 minutes from JR Tokushima Station towards the Awa Odori Kaikan, then take the Bizan Ropeway to the top.
  • Hours: The ropeway runs 9:00-21:00 from April to October and 9:00-17:30 from November to March (6:00-17:30 on 1 January). Hours may change over holiday periods.
  • Admission: Adult ropeway fares are ¥900 one way and ¥1,500 return.
  • Then and now: The ropeway now runs under the name Awagin Bizan Ropeway.
