Visiting Kegon Falls and Lake Chuzenji today

  • What it is: Water from Lake Chuzenji drops about 97 m down a cliff at Kegon Falls. The mountain lake above is ringed by forest and old summer villas.
  • Getting there: Bus from Tobu Nikko or JR Nikko Station to Chuzenji Onsen, about 50 minutes, then about 5 minutes on foot.
  • Hours: Falls viewing elevator 8:00–17:00 March–November; 9:00–16:30 December–February.
  • Admission: Elevator round trip ¥600 adults, ¥400 elementary students. Upper viewpoint free.
  • Tip: The road up the Irohazaka hairpins jams badly in autumn leaf season; travel early in the morning.
