Visiting Karatsu Castle today

  • What it is: The "Dancing Crane Castle" on a headland above Karatsu Bay. Its 1966 keep is a modern reconstruction with displays and views over the pine-lined Niji-no-Matsubara coast.
  • Getting there: About 15 minutes' walk from JR Karatsu Station; an outdoor lift helps with the climb.
  • Hours: We could not confirm hours on an official page.
  • Admission: Keep and lift are charged; check current fees locally.
  • Tip: Wisteria under the castle blooms in late April to early May.
