Visiting Mount Hakodate night view today
- What it is: The summit of Mount Hakodate looks down on the city's narrow, lit-up isthmus between two bays, one of Japan's best-known night views. A ropeway reaches the top in about 3 minutes.
- Getting there: About 25 minutes by tram from Hakodate Station toward the ropeway base station, or about 10 minutes by taxi. Evening shuttle buses also run (¥250–280).
- Hours: Ropeway 10:00–21:00 (last ascent 20:30) from 1 October to 19 April; 10:00–22:00 (last ascent 21:30) from 20 April to 30 September.
- Admission: Ropeway round trip ¥1,800 adults, ¥900 children; one way ¥1,200 / ¥600.
- Tip: Private cars are banned from the summit road in the evenings (16:00–21:00 from 1 October to 8 November 2026), so use the ropeway or bus. Arrive before sunset to get a railing spot.
