Visiting Yanagawa Canal Boat Rides today

  • What it is: Slow trips on poled flat-bottomed boats (donkobune) along the old castle-town canals of Yanagawa, past willows, stone walls and samurai-era houses.
  • Getting there: Nishitetsu train from Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station to Nishitetsu-Yanagawa, about 50 minutes. Boarding piers are a short walk or shuttle from the station.
  • Hours: Yanagawa Kanko Kaihatsu runs shared boats 9:00–14:40 year-round; after that, private charters only. Other operators keep their own times.
  • Admission: Yanagawa Kanko Kaihatsu: adults ¥1,900, children 6–11 ¥950, under-6s free (two per adult). Fares differ by operator.
  • Tip: Station West Exit works, planned to finish around autumn 2026, will bring a canal to the station front; for now piers are a little way off.
