Visiting Uchiko Old Town today

  • What it is: A former wax-making town whose Yokaichi-Gokoku street, a 1982 preservation district, has about 600 m of white-plaster merchant houses, plus the 1916 Uchiko-za kabuki theatre.
  • Getting there: JR Yosan Line from Matsuyama to Uchiko Station; the old town is a walk away.
  • Hours: Streets open any time. Uchiko-za 9:00–16:30; closed 29 Dec–2 Jan.
  • Admission: Streets free. Uchiko-za adults ¥400, under-15s ¥200, under-5s free; combined tickets available.
  • Tip: Uchiko-za still stages performances; on show days, visits inside may be limited.
