I took a spur of the moment trip up Mount Hieizan to see if I could find any good late evening shots. I found that the view towards Lake Biwa was uninterrupted, but looking back towards Kyoto City there were a few trees and other objects in the way. Not to be too concerned, I decided to use the objects to create a bit of contrast. It almost looks in this scene that the tower is lighting up the city.

Lovely! When I went there, the weather was horrible and I couldn’t see anything but thick clouds. I’ts nice to see what I missed.
I’m a bit confused. Do you live in Kyoto? I thought you live in Tokyo because of your username and all! ^-^;
Thanks. I seem to be spending more time in Kyoto recently than Tokyo, after being in Tokyo for 20 years.
Is the ropeway a walk?
It’s like an enclosed ski lift ride up high
Hi, can you advise which way is best to go to Mt.Hieizan? I’m travelling there in November. I found that I can go by direct bus to the mountain top or take train+cable car (or walk). Is this the best route: Take the JR Kosei Line from Kyoto Station to Hiei-Sakamoto Station (15 minutes, 320 yen one way), from where it is a 15 minute walk or 5 minute bus ride to the lower station of the Sakamoto Cablecar. The cablecar ride takes 11 minutes and costs 860 yen one way or 1620 yen for a round trip. From the upper station, Hieizan’s Todo area can be reached in a 5-10 minute walk. ? And I will be traveling solo, I want to get there as early as 7:30-08:00, since I have to visit Uji. Is it safe during that time or too deserted (potentially dangerous to be alone)? I would really appreciate if you could help.
