It was not that busy today at the Shibuya crossing. On a weekend it can be really packed. Friday evening with the rain coming down and everyone carrying umbrellas can also be a very different view than shown here today.

When you see the Tanabata displays there is a lovely feeling of Japanese summer 🙂

Yes, it an unusual set of dates to run this. They are going with the old calendar running up to Aug 8 rather than the new calendar which has Tanabata set on 7th July.

I have dinner with friends in Shibuya tomorrow night. Should be lovelier when those lanterns are lit.

Can you tell me from where you took the last photo, which shows the crossing from way up high?
How can you get there, is it open to the public?

It is from the Tokyu Excel Hotel building. You can go to top floor where they have a restaurant. This hotel is great for staying in Shibuya. I have stayed there many times in the past. You feel like you are staying right on the crossing. brilliant 🙂

Thank you for this information.
I think the hotel will be too expensive for me, but I will check out the restaurant for the view. 🙂

RT @Shibuya246: Shibuya Tanabata | Japan | Shibuya246 http://bt.io/1xi The lanterns are really colorful.__The origami is really the cool thing on the lantern, must take them a long time to make and put togrther. And the photo of Shibuya crossing makes it feel like a slow down day, maybe just before rush hour. A great view though.
