As the Sakura season is finishing for another year, I took some shots on the weekend taking advantage of the good weather. Where did you enjoy the Sakura this year?

The Kamo river (kamogawa) runs through Kyoto, historically providing an important water supply, but also now allowing people to relax and enjoy nature whilst still being in the heart of the city. It is said the rivers course was [...]

The weekends are always a good time for a walk. The weather seems to get better and people on the street seem to be smiling more. I didn’t have my main camera with me, but whilst I was out around the Meguro area, I took a quick [...]

We had snow in Tokyo tonight. Normally we get a bit of snow between January and March, but it doesn’t normally settle so easily. I expect by the morning this snow will also have melted away and things should be back to normal. It [...]

It is snowing tonight in Tokyo, a bit heavier than the other day, with maybe a chance of it settling over night. For Valentines Day, however, I thought it might be nice to see a sunny picture of Japan. Here is Mt Fuji taken from [...]

The new Tokyo Sky Tree is slowly, or maybe quickly, edging towards the sky. I managed to grab this photo from the top of Roppongi Hills, showing Tokyo Tower on the right with the new Tokyo Sky Tree in the distance out to the left.

There are a number of places to see a great view of Tokyo City from high up. One of those is Roppongi Hills. In the evening you can see the sun setting over Mt Fuji. It was a bit cold today, but I thought it might be a good chance to [...]

Took a day away to experiment with some HDR photography in Yokohama. I am still trying out a few techniques. Here are the first attempts at what might look more like art than photography. What is your favorite Yokohama scene? For those [...]

When I was traveling around Shikoku I came across this great Camphor tree that is over 900 years old. That dates it back to around the year 1100. Imagine the history and battles that this tree has lived through to still be standing [...]

Mount Bizan is very close to the center of Tokushima. You can ride the Bizan ropeway up part of the way and get a good view of the town. The ropeway starts inside the Awaodori Kaikan about 15 minutes walk from Tokushima Station.

The shibuya246 has been down for a few days and I have only just managed to get it back up. The problem, basically, was hackers!! I have the main part of the site back up now and am checking the database files. Everything should be [...]

I have been going to the gym in Meguro recently and walk past Meguro River often. Normally it is late in the evening when the light is just fading. Here are a few shots of the River from different angles. In April, this whole area is [...]

I took a walk around Yamashita Koen in Yokohama today after having lunch at Chinatown. The park was teeming with people enjoying the start of Golden Week and the good weather. This gentleman was painting the scenery in the midst of it all.

With the rain in Tokyo coming after such a warm day yesterday, the Sakura trees were having a hard time figure out whether to bloom or fall. It looks like this coming weekend may see the start of some nice sakura fubuki shots. Sakura [...]

I went out to Ueno Park today to see the Sakura, which are at full bloom. As expected it was crowded with people enjoying the fine weather. There were many groups camped under the trees eating and drinking, with many more walking down [...]

I came across their dance scene in Yoyogi Park when out for a walk on New Years Day. It looked like they were making some sort of cosplay dance movie or maybe rehearsing for one. The rhythm beat was quite catchy. My niece who was with [...]

I spotted these birds moving in a group around the canals in Shinagawa. Looks like they were either trying to drink some beer at the local Brewery, or they had found something in the water below. What do you think was down there? [...]

The Rainbow Bridge can be a great sight at night looking from Odaiba back towards the skyline of Tokyo.

I was walking up the hill at Sakuragaoka-cho when I came across this live jazz festival under the Sakura trees. Of course a Sakura festival is nothing without some treats to go with it. and treats are nothing without some free sake I [...]

With the cold weather, the Sakura have taken a while to come out. Most years we tend to have one day which is really warm and the Sakura bloom quickly only to be washed away a few days later by the rain. This year, we haven’t had [...]

The prediction for Sakura to arrive in Tokyo this year was the 22 or 23rd of March. With the weather forecast for rain tomorrow, it looks like Monday 23 should be the best time for the Sakura to come out, at least in Shibuya. I took [...]
