Stay in Japan. At least I would. Most fascinating country I've seen at least on television. I'm working on going to Japan in 2012.

A trip is a trip, you get all the fun and leave.
You live there, you are faced to the best and the worst. And the worst is aggrieved by being "the alien" party.

Life is already a struggle, someone thinks you need some extras: administration.
Japan is really hard on that...

Living in a foreign country isn't fun, that I know myself firsthand.

I definitely get what you mean about the differences between living and visiting. I just had my longest trip there, 3 weeks, and I was ready to go back to Miami but one week after being back I was already having thoughts of my next trip. Maybe its because I always have such a good time in Japan that I overlook some things like getting stared at on the trains. I am aware that I'm the outsider when visiting Japan and I can imagine that it does wear on you as time goes by. As you mentioned, there are also some customs that we westerners just don't get but some things like greeting guests when they arrive and depart are one I do appreciate.

@Perdomot: Well as much as I love visiting Japan on a bi-annual basis; I cannot see myself living there for longer than say a year *tops*; despite having the skills and connections to land a great job there (and i'd use my free time during that year for soaking in more of the rest of country by being based in Japan; than I can afford whilst on trips; time wise) Living there is a whole different ball game from visiting; every country has it's ups and allot of downs which may not be apparent if your simply visiting a country for a very short amount of time, Japan not being excluded to that. There's just a few fundamental things in Japanese society that I just can't get my head around. (and maybe that's also from living in Holland :P ?)

With that said; I'm sure Shibuya246, despite probably having a few rough times here and there still enjoyed his residence in Japan as he stayed there so frickin long *hahahaha* Your friend's advice was correct; stay put in a secure bubble until you've made up your mind 100% on where to go next!

P.S: Loving the picture; it has this unusual 3D like quality to it.

Maybe I'm prejudiced but if I was living in Japan, I'd never move to another country. It's just too good there.
