Have you tried mammoth meat? These colorful packs are tempting you to give it a go. The one on the right has an onion flavor to it. What does mammoth meat taste like?

Mameshiba (bean dog) is getting in on the act for Setsubun, where people throw out beans wishing in good luck and chasing out the devils. Since Mameshiba is a bean dog, this is their chance to get in the public eye.

Was really surprised by the size of this caramel almond scone. It was twice the size of the strawberry bread.

Sweets Torte. Lots of flavors in this treat out at the moment. This one looked good on the packet, but the size of the cookie looks small. I want the full cake. ^^

Strawberry bread for those who are keen. I decided to pass on this one, but it looked interesting.

Lots of home brands on display here. The products never look that interesting. Good packaging makes such a difference when buying things. The home brands seem to be taking up more shelf space recently though. Maybe in the future, convenience stores will stock mainly their own goods?

Rilakkuma enjoying some Mameshiba beans, getting ready for Setsubun. Probably hoping he is going to be welcomed in with the good luck and not thrown out with the devils.

I really like chiffon cake. This variety doesn't look like the best I have ever tried, but the quality looks better than you might normally expect from a convenience store cake.

Not sure if this is new, but I haven't seen it before. It literally stopped me in my tracks. I thought it was a new foreign brand, then realized it said Hi Milk, not himilk. ^^

There were so many chocolate treats here, I had to snap a photo of the whole shelf. We have covered many of these before. Which ones can you recognize?

Lots of good premium onigiri out in the convenience stores. Do you prefer the regular type or the premium ones?

Totoro poses with some Ginger Syrup throat sweets. I couldn't resist buying these and trying them out straight away. They were great.

Are convenience stores in your part of the world always changing their items, or do they pretty much stock the same things all year round. One of the reasons I like going to the convenience stores so much is they always have the latest products out. It is a great place to revitalize yourself looking at new items.

I sampled those mammoth things before, and they’re pretty bad. I did a review of the beef one, so it is possible that the other flavors are better, but the texture wasn’t great.

The ginger syrup drops do look good though. I’ve not seen them yet. 🙂

And it’s the same price as the strawberry bread, yen 128

shibuya246 January 20, 2010 at 12:01 am

yes, the same price. A real bargain. I don’t think it will last, because it takes up too much shelf space 😉

How do the watches fit in with the snacks, special promotion maybe?

Reply
whipcracker January 19, 2010 at 3:56 am

My thoughts exactly. Want it all. But some people just like a sample.

Reply
whipcracker January 19, 2010 at 3:58 am

It just looks like generic packageing.
Sorta bland.

Rilakkuma made good choices. I would probably like the chocolate ones.

We don’t get those oreo snack bars over here. And have only seen the larger version kit kat once over here.

RT @tweetmeme Conbini Monday Wk37, Japan Conbini Monday | Shibuya246 http://bit.ly/5hbNSV Looking at all those snacks makes the stomach hungry. 🙂 Quite the selection of products up for review. Rilakkuma and Totoro made some great choice to get their pics with.
Hope I’m not commenting on to many photos. I like the way you have it set up to post comments on the photos now.
I have one problem though, when i go to log in the box doesn’t stay on the screen long enough. I have a type it in program that automaticly insert my info in the spaces, so i don’t have to manually put it in. could you check on that for me ? thanks.
Have a great week. 🙂

Feel free to comment on as many photos as you want. I am working to improve the system as well. You can resize the square as well as move it around if you want.

Will try to find out about problem with login. What is the name of the program you use?

The name of the program is called TypeItIn we’ve used it for years Here is the website to get it from http://www.wavget.com/typeitin.html

Conbini stores over here are different. They stock the same thing mostly all-year round , there is very little variation.
Every product is extensivly pre-tested and judged before coming out on the market.
We do oceasionally have some short-shelf-life stuff but thats rare.

The Mammoth Meat packaging is stupidly cute… the product itself isn’t doing it for me, though. I spy coffee jelly on the shelf below the chiffon cake – yum! Meiji choccie for 100 yen…? They’re going for $AU7.98 at my local Asian supermarket 🙁

combini is really a market here is the U.S. sometimes they add new things – the smaller shop have the same stuff day-in and day-out. found only two kinds of Pocky and Yam Yam. Got this new app for making photos look like the old school Polaroids – Poladroid !!

It does random cropping and color enhancements.

My daughter loves Yan Yan…closest I can get to ‘pocky’ where I live (unless I go for a generic Chinese thingy that looks like pocky but it always sells out as soon as they get it in!)
