Japan Birds

This beautiful bird greeted me first thing on New Years Day.
This beautiful bird greeted me first thing on New Years Day.

It has been a busy day making some changes on the Site. I have photos to upload from my walk around Takanawa and visit to a shrine for New Years, but have not had a break from coding yet.

I realized also I wanted to share with you a few pictures of this great New Year Days present that awaited me at the bottom of my apartment when I went out for a walk yesterday.

The bird had obviously been injured by something. It was bleeding a little. I didn't want to touch it in case I scared it.

There were crows circling, so I hung around for about half an hour while the bird recovered its strength.

The bird was so tiny and the crows so big, it seemed a shame to let them close in.

Just catching its breath before trying to fly away again.

I think it is looking up to see the crows.

Lots of people walked by and took photos, but nobody seemed to know what to do about the inured bird.

It seemed lucky to see this bird on New Years. Although I live in the city there is always lots of beautiful nature around to look at and enjoy. I hope the bird recovers and also has a great 2010. Happy New Year to you all.

I added a touch of color to this photo to highlight the bird.

Site Updates, Changes

I am finishing off the code for writing comments directly on the photos. This is working now already on the Site, but I have some more changes coming to make it work smoother.

You will soon also be able to login with Twitter. For existing users, you can LINK your Twitter account to the existing one and then use either for login. I am still working on the new user registration code for this and should complete soon. If you want to try linking your Twitter account, go to your profile page, (log in normally, click on your avatar at the top right of the Site near your name), then click EDIT. Half-way down the page you will see a Twitter button. If you click that and hit “Agree” on the Twitter Site then everything should be complete. The next time you come to shibuya246 you should be able to find the button link for signing in with your Twitter account instead of having to type your username and password.

Other changes include adding an EDIT button to the comments. This was a suggestion by lithiumangel. If you have any other suggestions let me know.

I want to keep the Site current in content and also in the presentation. Having a blog Site it is nice to be able to share ideas with you all as to what features you want in the Site and also what sort of content you like to see more of. Keep the ideas rolling and I will try and cover as many topics as I can.

I added this color shade in with Picasa. Normally I dont adjust anything in the photos after they have been taken. Just crop and compress.

Macro shots?
I can’t do that with mine, pictures look so good in these occasions.

So you’ve been around for 30 minutes, that’s quite nice to the bird.
Animals rights activist?

no animal rights. It just didn’t seem right to have something bad happen first thing on New Years Day. i didnt have my macro lens with me, but the 85mm did the job fine. 🙂

I love that little bird. Poor guy. If I had been there I would of taken him home and taken care of him. (Hope you are well my little friend). 😀

RT @tweetmeme Japan Birds, Japan outdoors | Shibuya246 http://bit.ly/4EEg8o this bird had someone looking out for it. I take it the bird flew off ok . Have you seenit any more since. Maybe you’ll see it on your window sill some day to say thank you for staying with it while it caught it’s breath. 🙂

This is Japanese white eye (my wife recognized it).
I am considering to make a special section with Japanese fauna (mainly birds) and flora on my website but it is a long way to go.

Anyway nice pictures 🙂

Cheers

This is a very interesting site. I liked the photos of the injured bird, I see those around Meguro quite a bit. I am going to put a link to here from my own site “Japanease” ( http://travelinginjapan.blogspot.com ) and wish you a Happy New Year. Best. Jack.
