Last week we took a look at some bentos in the local convenience stores. This week is a mix of sweet and more sweet.

Quite a few of the convenience stores are trying to improve their line of sweet breads at the moment. Some have launched new brands and improving the display areas. Fresh cream filled breads are kept in refrigerated shelving areas.

These Hokkaido fresh milk caramels look good.

A little bit unsual but worth a try, Vegetable Chocolate. Also note the Yuzu candy on the left. I bought this and it was really tasty.

If Yuzu is not your thing, then maybe these chunks of ginger? The flavor was ok, but it was a bot too sugary for me. Less sugar, more ginger would be better.

Something you can't eat, Rilakkuma and friends. This is from the Rilakkuma Onsen series. There are a total of 7 in the set to collect.

What do you think about the increase in sweet breads with fresh cream / custard? Do you think it is a passing trend, or a long term seller for conbini’s?

  1. Ewww vegetable chocolate. A combination of something sinful and yet healthy?

  2. Vegetable chocolates? hmm..I can’t imagine the taste of vegetable and chocolate together. Probably something that I won’t try.

  3. RT @Shibuya246: Conbini Monday Wk31, Japan Conbini Monday | Shibuya246 http://bt.io/BNOz The Rilakkuma Onsen series is a definate keeper. Why is there different prices? You know me I’d like one :) Sweet breads with fresh cream / custard would be a real keeper, sounds and looks like a great combination. Vegetables and chocolate, never know untill you try. To much of 1 thing especially sugar can be overpowering.
All in all onother great conbini monday. They get better everytime.

  4. I’d try the Vegetable chocolate! XD it’d make me feel better about eating chocolate LOL >_> I’d love to try the fresh milk caramels too! You always post such tasty looking things!
