I saw this drink advertised on the trains yesterday and was wondering whether I would catch it in the conbini today. It wasn't in 7 Eleven, but I did see it in NewDays and Family Mart. Vinegar and Milk is the title in English. It says Grapefruit, vinegar and milk in Japanese. Game to try this?

This week, Monday is a holiday in Japan, so for all those who normally have their Conbini Monday on the first day back at work, you will have to wait until tomorrow to stock up on snacks.

Cake in Choco by Glico looks like it would be popular with the office ladies. A tiny cake to eat without putting on the calories.

As with last week, there were plenty of new drinks out at the stores this week. Here is a quick glimpse.

LOVE MODE GINGER from Suntory. Supposedly a sweet and dry Ginger Ale

Lots of different cocoa products here from Morinaga. milk cocoa to drink, cocoa sticks to munch on, milk cocoa caramel bars and milk cocoa snack bars. This is all to celebrate Morinaga's 90 years of making cocoa. That's a lot of cocoa!

soupcafe have some new branded soups and drinks in store. Here you can see their corn potage, clam chowder and hot chocolate. Nothing really original here. Not sure how long they will remain on the shelves.

Meiji have brought out a chou-BIG (super large) chocolate pudding. Looks a little plasticky but it might taste good. Anyone given this one a go?

A few snacks to pick up for the afternoon tea session. Get your Bourbon choco anpan either in milk or soft chocolate. I like the chef character with his chocolate mustache

Kabaya have a new soft gummy out called GUIMAUVE, billing it as a soft and moist gummy which is like a French marshmallow. Worth a try.

Rilakkuma found at Family Mart. Whereas Lawson normally cobrand their Rilakkuma products to make them more interesting and unique, this is just the normal Rilakkuma type product you can find at any store. Would like to see Family Mart license the brand and produce something joint with San-x

  1. I drank the vinegar milk drink the other day and put a blog post about it here! http://www.tattoo-tokyo.com/2009/11/crazy-drinks-from-tokyo/ Won’t be buying that one again! haha

  2. RT @Shibuya246: Conbini Monday Wk29, Japan Conbini Monday | Shibuya246 http://bt.io/AWMa No conbini purchase today. Don’t think I could handle vinegar and milk combined. But I’ve never had a Pocari Sweat before to judge properly. Didn’t know ginger ale could have a dry taste, only in Japan right? And that sure is alot of years producing cocoa products, sorta like Hersheys’ over here in the states, or even like Nestles. The old CM line over here for nestles over here was “N E S T L E S nestles makes the very best Chocalate.” That’s the one I remember growing up. :)
Those other snacks look great also, could you send some my way?
Gotta work on getting Rilakkuma a marketing deal w/either Lawson or Family Mart.
Well have a great week! :)
    Ashita mata ne.

  3. I really want to try this, I got interested in vinegar drinks last time I was in Japan^^

  4. I tried the vinegar milk – it wasn’t nearly as bad as expected! Kind of like Calpis, but a little less sweet and a little more grapefruity. Was looking for the Soup Cafe cups this morning at an AMPM and Lawsons, with no luck. (Had blogged about the ads for them.)
I love Combini Monday! Convenience stores are definitely one of the joys (and, sometimes, headscratchers) of living in Japan.

  5. This is a bit late for a reply, but yeah, I tried the Meiji big chocolate pudding when I was in Japan. And I already have a hard time remembering it, so I guess it was OK, but nothing special.

I did keep the lid, though. Maybe I’ll put it in the photo album.
