Cigarette advertising around the world used to be more prominent. In Japan, cigarettes had an interesting tie-up with JR for Shinkansens and travel around Japan.

RT @Shibuya246: Shinkansen Cigarettes, Japan Trains | Shibuya246 http://bt.io/ANw Ahh the days of cigarette advertising. Miss those days.
Over here we had different tpes of figures for cigarette adverts. The main one that comes to mind is the Marlboro Man. Also no pictures just the name of the cigarette, the Japanese always seem to come up with colorful packaging no matter what the product is. Did they ever have a mascot for their brands? The Shinkansen and cigarette go together for back then, not for todays anti smoking laws. give me back the good ole days, less restrictions.

Ooops, should have mentioned great post! Waiting for the next one!
Those packs have some decent artwork on them. Must have been nice to carry around a little piece of art in your pocket.
And I am with puffdragon01; less restrictions indeed!
It is nice to see the artwork used, though can understand why they have removed it from cigarette packs recently. 🙂
