Seems like a fascinating place. Can't wait. Hoping to get lots of pictures but I believe they don't actually let you in the buildings (understandable really) which is a bit of a shame.

I plan to do this tour when I'm over in Japan in a few weeks, have been fascinated by Gunkanjima since I first learnt about it.

Happen to know if the tours have to be booked in advance? I can't find much info about it as obviously its quite new.

I didn't know that. I wonder if that bar is related to the island or whether they just took the name because it sounded good?

There is also a bar called Gunkanjima in Tokyo, in Nishi-Waseda.
